GI onboarding program for advanced practice providers (APPs)

AGA is excited to announce a new collaboration with Haymarket Medical Education (HME) to develop a GI onboarding program for advanced practice providers (APPs). This program will fill an unmet need for formalized onboarding resources and educate APPs on current clinical guidelines and therapies. The learning format will combine innovative adult learning principles in case-based online activities, podcasts and face to face focus-groups.

Topics for the GI onboarding program will include IBD, IBS, liver diseases (NASH, NAFLD, hepatic encephalopathy, hepatitis B & C), upper GI diseases (Barrett’s esophagus, eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and GERD), as well as pancreatitis and nutrition. The program rollout is planned as a staggered release beginning tentatively in June 2020.

Part 1 of AGA’s  webcast series for APPs

AGA’s first APP pharmacology on-demand webcast, developed with independent educational grants from Gilead Sciences and Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc., launched successfully in June 2019. Approximately 380 learners have enrolled and over 100 have completed the module to receive continuing education credit. Survey results indicate APPs are achieving the learning objectives and are better able to understand each of the IBD pharmacology-related clinical topics.

AGA plans to expand the IBD pharmacology series, focusing on the use of biologics and oral small-molecule therapies including, but not limited to, anti-TNF, anti-Integrin and Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitor therapies. An additional series in IBS is planned to launch in 2020.
