Javier Aguilera-Lizarraga is investigating the mechanisms underlying post-infectious visceral hypersensitivity in IBS.

The AGA Research Foundation awarded Javier Aguilera-Lizarraga, of the University of Leuven in Belgium, with the 2015 Student Abstract Prize. 

“This award, together with the opportunity to present my research as an oral presentation, is highly appreciated and motivates me even more to continue my research career,” said Aguilera-Lizarraga, whose research investigates the mechanisms underlying post-infectious visceral hypersensitivity in IBS.

“I would like to specially thank my supervisor Professor Guy E. Boeckxstaens for his excellent and tireless guidance. I want to thank my co-supervisor Dr. Mira Wouters for her help and advice in the laboratory, as well as my colleagues at the Translational Research Center for Gastrointestinal Disorders (TARGID) at the KU Leuven.”

Aguilera-Lizarraga additionally expressed gratitude to AGA and the selection committee for the award.
