The AGA Research Foundation is awarding student grants for summer research and travel to DDW® 2016.

The AGA Research Foundation will again award the AGA Investing in the Future Student Research Fellowship, which funds 12 summer fellowship awards of $5,000 each for underrepresented minority students who are interested in digestive disease or nutrition-related research. Highly qualified students will have the opportunity to work with top investigators in the fields of gastroenterology and hepatology. The award incudes a stipend to offset housing and travel costs.

Eligible candidates include African Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, American Indians, Alaska natives and natives of U.S. Pacific Islands who are undergraduates or medical school students at accredited U.S. institutions. Candidates must plan on performing eight to 10 weeks of research related to digestive diseases or nutrition during the summer of 2016, and may not hold similar salary support awards from other agencies.

The application deadline is Feb. 5, 2016. This award is supported by NIDDK (R25DK096968).

Students are also encouraged to apply for:

  • The AGA Eli & Edythe Broad Student Research Fellowship, which offers $2,500 stipends to high school students to spend time performing research in digestive diseases or nutrition for a minimum of 10 weeks. As a summer fellowship, the research must take place between May and August. The application deadline is Feb. 12, 2016.
  • AGA Student Abstract Prizes: Eight travel awards of $500 each will be given to high school, undergraduate, graduate and medical students who have submitted abstracts chosen by AGA to be presented during Digestive Disease Week® (DDW). The application deadline is March 4, 2016.

Complete information about these and other research awards is available on the AGA website. Prize recipients will be acknowledged at the Research Recognition Celebration during DDW.
